“My art is about embracing the world around us. It's about wildlife and botanicals and bringing the two together into a space that brings great peace and comfort when we look it it".
Karen Vleck's work appears in several international colored pencil magazines and was recently included in a collection from The Colored Pencil Society of America. Based on nature, each piece offers an up close view of wildlife or floral images from the fine tip of the colored pencil.
"If you’re anything like me, you want people to look at your art and how it was created in a different way. I want to challenge myself -to push myself to create something that will inspire the viewer.

THE PROCESS
The story begins before the Pencil touches the paper
If you’re a collector, you know it’s all about the details. The simple pencil strokes. The way a feather lays. Fur that is so perfect that you think you could reach out and stroke it.
Every painting is based on creating an emotional experience. I want them to stir emotions- to find that cord that draws them in and speaks to them. Much like a puzzle, I want the image to fit together like it was meant to be. I want my work to draw the viewer in and offer the WOW factor. It should be an experience that tells a story, not just an image of something that looks nice.
