The SADDLE SHOE COLLECTION
You surround yourself with the images that you love
I had this midnight dream of saddle shoes traveling all around- much like the "Where's Waldo" character. I grabbed the sketchbook I kept by the side of the bed and did a quick sketch. The next day I began the series. For suggested trips, I asked my followers where the saddle shoes should go next. As you can see, it was an interesting mix of adventures. There will be more to come in the future.

“People ask what motivates me in creating each piece I paint. Oddly enough, I started painting pet portraits after the personal loss of my beloved English Bulldogs. My heart was so broken and empty that I decided to paint a portrait of them so I could feel them with me in spite of their absence. Now, I get pet portrait request from people I have never met but with whom I can connect due to our shared loss.

Karen Vleck's work appears in several international colored pencil magazines and was recently included in a collection from The Colored Pencil Society of America. Based on nature, each piece offers an up close view of wildlife or floral images from the fine tip of the colored pencil.
